Mathew Grohne

Tea Ceremony Facilitator

Matthew Grohne was born in Green Bay, WI and attended the University of Wisconsin - Madison, receiving a bachelor's degree in art and psychology and a master's degree in occupational therapy. He moved to Olympia in 2010 and works on an inpatient psychiatric unit, teaching skills to enhance mindfulness, emotion regulation, communication, and general well-being. In 2021 he created Fiddlehead Tea Room as part of the (short-lived) Olympia Yoga Sanctuary in an effort to share his love and practice of tea more broadly.

Matthew is first and foremost a student - of tea, Zen, philosophy, shakuhachi, and Nature. He serves tea in the style of Global Tea Hut, a worldwide community of tea lovers of which he has been a part since 2016. For Matthew, tea is not merely a beverage, but a medicinal plant, a facilitator of meditation and social connection, and a way of life. It is his sincere wish that through tea and other wisdom practices we might create a more harmonious and virtuous world.
